Image Filtering Sites

Here are some links to useful online image filtering sites.  These seem to work faster and more reliably than some of the Ipad apps. We also have a new app on the Ipads called 'Devinci' which is up and WORKING :).

The sites don't LOOK great .. but they seem to work well...

Character Types: Star Wars example

(Source used: http://www.starwars.com/databank)

Protagonists: Luke Skywalker,  Princess Leia Organa

Luke Skywalker was a Tatooine farm boy who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the greatest Jedi the galaxy has ever known. Along with his friends Princess Leia and Han Solo, Luke battled the evil Empire, discovered the truth of his parentage, and ended the tyranny of the Sith.

Princess Leia Organa was one of the Rebel Alliance’s greatest leaders, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire. Daughter of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker, sister of Luke Skywalker, and with a soft spot for scoundrels, Leia ranks among the galaxy’s great heroes. But life under the New Republic has not been easy for Leia.

Anti Hero
Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero. Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, was one of the great leaders of the Rebel Alliance. He and his co-pilot Chewbacca came to believe in the cause of galactic freedom, joining Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa in the fight against the Empire.

Antagonist: Darth Vader
Once a heroic Jedi Knight, Darth Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force, became a Sith Lord, and led the Empire’s eradication of the Jedi Order. He remained in service of the Emperor -- the evil Darth Sidious -- for decades, enforcing his Master’s will and seeking to crush the fledgling Rebel Alliance.

Flat Character:

C-3PO is a droid programmed for etiquette and protocol, built by the heroic Jedi Anakin Skywalker, and a constant companion to astromech R2-D2.  He is the stereotype of a bureaucrat, we know that he will always be worried and anxious, he is predictable. In some ways he is almost a dull parental figure to create contrast with the other crew members and make them seem more dynamic.

Round Characters:

Luke, Leia, Hans and Darth are all round characters because there characters all face internal conflicts, they sometimes act in ways that surprise us and we are given a good deal of information on their back stories, fears, desires, motivations etc

Session 1 | Graphic Narrative Formats: Guide slides.

On these slides you will find information of the tasks that you need to complete this session along with explanations to help you.

Graphic Narrative Research Resources.

Below are research resource sheets on 3 different graphic narrative formats: Graphic Novels, Flip Books and Gif animations. (Copy+paste the link into your browser to download the file)

The Flip Book and Gif sheets contain links to online examples and articles to help you get started with finding inspiring examples and understanding how these narrative formats are used to create media products for entertainment and advertising.

The Graphic Novel sheets give you an illustrated list of the Graphic Novels which we have here for you to look at. These physical books are split between the two groups so ask us if the one that you want is not in the room.
